Non-Surgical Root Canal
This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges.
What is a root canal?
With approximately 14 million performed every year, a root canal is one of the most common dental procedures. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges. At the center of your tooth is pulp, a collection of blood vessels that help to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection include visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature, or pain in the tooth and gums. If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp.
How is a root canal performed?
We remove the injured pulp and thoroughly clean and seal the root canal system. We use local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort, and we will provide nitrous oxide analgesia if indicated. This therapy may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in approximately 90% of cases. We will inform you during your consultation or during the procedure if we find that your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable.
What happens after treatment?
It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you will most likely be comfortable returning to your normal routine.
We will schedule you for the necessary definitive restoration of the affected tooth.
You should be comfortable returning to your normal routine after this simple procedure that can save your natural teeth.
